Empowering Collaboration: The READY4DC Project
Supported by Horizon Europe, the READY4DC Project aspires to establish a community of experts dedicated to evaluating and providing recommendations on crucial technical and legal aspects. The ultimate goal is to pave the way for the development of the first multi-terminal, multi-vendor HVDC project in Europe.
READY4DC Networking at IET ACDC Conference
Participating in the 19th International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission organized by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in Glasgow, the READY4DC partners engaged with stakeholders and showcased their work, contributing to a dynamic exchange of knowledge in power grid technology.
Updates from our Working Groups
Working Group 1 (WG1)
“Modelling and Simulation Framework for HVDC Interaction Studies”
In anticipation of future systems with multiple HVDC converters, WG1 focuses on facilitating multi-frequency interactions between devices from different manufacturers. The forthcoming report, scheduled for April release, will address challenges related to the modelling framework, data sharing, and integration with simulation tools for Multi-Terminal Multi-Vendor HVDC systems.
Working Group 2 (WG2)
“Legal Framework for Multi-vendor HVDC Network Realization”
WG2 confronts critical legal questions surrounding offshore grid ownership, liability division, intellectual property, and standardization. The whitepaper, slated for release in April, will provide preliminary conclusions on these aspects, aiming to offer clarity and legal certainty crucial for fostering investment in HVDC technology.
Working Group 3 (WG3)
“Multi-vendor Interoperability Process and Demonstration Definition”
Addressing the lack of clear definitions for HVDC interoperability and commonly agreed topologies for MTMV demonstrator projects, WG3 will release a whitepaper in April. This document aims to build a common understanding among stakeholders and outlines guidelines for linking the demonstration project to the European transmission grid.
Working Group 4 (WG4)
“Framing the Future European Energy System”
Recognizing the significance of MTMV HVDC technology in the transition to climate neutrality, WG4 is working on a whitepaper to unlock investments for the first MTMV HVDC demonstrator. The document will tackle barriers, propose solutions, and provide an overview of available funding mechanisms, fostering ideal conditions for investments in MTMV HVDC demonstration projects.
